Kampala, Uganda is designated a critical crime threat area. Crimes such as pickpocketing, purse snatching, and thefts from parked vehicles or vehicles stopped in traffic are common. When in public, avoid flashing large amounts of money, wearing jewelry, and carrying valuable items on shoulder straps. It is recommended that you leave important documents in the hotel safe deposit box. To protect against bank and credit card fraud, we recommend you issue instructions to your bank not to enact wire transfers without first confirming it with you through a secure means. Credit card companies should be aware of your travel destinations. Please review your credit card and bank statements carefully when they arrive. To review recent travel warnings issued by the U.S. Government on Uganda and other countries in East Africa, please visit www.travel.state.gov.
